lichens

Post by Sumanth001 » Tue Aug 20, 2013 6:48 am

guys, why isn't lichens classified into any one of those 6 kingdoms????

i could suggest mycota since it is helotism of a fungus(trapper) on an algal partner(trapped).
i could also suggest a 7th kingdom for lichens since they behave both like algea and fungi.

Lichens are not an organism, they are a community. Their component organisms are be classified as organisms, but a community would not be classified as an organism.

what do u say about viruses????

they show living and nonliving characters and one group of viruses (mimiviruses) show even their own metabolism outside a host.

shouldn't there be a 7th kingdom called false life exclusively for viruses as they show more living characters than the nonliving ones???
