homologous recombination

I'm reading about "homologous recombination",but I can not understand the mechanism of it clearly.Can you help me?thank a lot

I think it refers to the recombination that takes place between homologous chromosomes, which will not result in gametes with different alleles for the same trait.
Henceforth, variation among species.
