Hi i am a plant breeder but ive only been at it for a short amount of time and have no formal education on the subject beaides a little bookwork in high school, but i try and do as much personal research as i can and think i have a fairly good knowlege of how genetics qorks. So now that you have and idea of what i know ill ask my question, if i were making a hybridof plant with. 2 specific plants chosen for outstanding yields and flavor then chose a plant out of a population of about 10,000 of the f1 and crossed it with another plant chosen for outstanding qualities from another inbred line would it be better for me to take the time to grow out 10,000 plants to choose 2 or 3 stellar plants to continue the line and try to stabilize the traits that im after or would it be better to use smaller populations , say 100 and just breeding the best 2 and going with more generations in less time? Im sorry if i forgot to mention anything but im really tired so if you cpuld help me out i wpuld really appreciate it thanks in advance, and by the way if you need anymore info just ask and ill specify whatever it is ypi need to know.
Thankd for the reply i was beginning to think no one was going to answer me, i apologize i posted the questiom wrong i was in a hurry bit what i meant to say is with the smaller populations the benefit would be more attentiin to the individual planys and so i would be able to collect better data on those as opposed to tje large population where i would be just choossing 1 or 2 plants to make the f2
