Help Identifying Unknown Bacteria

Post by nawahi » Sun Nov 23, 2008 7:20 am

I need a little help identifying my unknown.
It’s a strange color which I’d describe as being a tan white
(picture: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b136/Nawahi/image.jpg)
gram negative cocci.
This bacteria grows really quickly and the colonies are at a normal size.
Coagulase positive.
Peroxide: negative
It’s aerobic & Facultative.
I’ve done an entertube test which showed it had: glucose/gas, lactose and urea.
Antibiotics Test results:
Basetration 10 units (B-10): 12mm, defined ring
Tetres Cydramene (TE-30): 22mm, defined ring
Ampacylen (AM-10): 11mm, defined ring
Sipro (CF-30): 16 mm, defined ring
Sulfamatexizol (SXT): 23 mm, continuing growth
(P-10): 10mm, short resistance
Streptomyocin (S-10): 27 mm, defined growth
Rithromison (E-15): 36 mm, defined
D-30: 27 mm, grow back
CIP5: 30mm, grow back

Can you not do an API?

Have you tried looking in Bergeys manual?

I'm not sure what a API is.

I've only tried once, but this is my first time trying to identify a bacteria and I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at in the manual, it all seams really confusing for me.

I finally found out what my unknow bacteria is. It's a: Listeria monocytogenes.
I ended up taking a new gram stain and looking at it under a microscope again, my results came out completely different than what I had previously: gram positive, diplobassili, with a capsule. I think what happened was the Listeria monocytogenes untilized the organism that I had growing previously and completely destroyed it and repopulated its self.

I have no idea how you "found out" but the results you offered are not consistent with Listeria monocytogenes. Your explanation is silly - but does indicate you probably did not have a pure culture. this is a critical element of any micro study and i suggest you concentrate on it.
