I know the answer is really easy but even after scouring my book and the interenet I cannot come up with a straight answer for what are the factors that determine a cells lifespan

It depends on the type of cells. Red blood cells, for example, have a lifespan of what, 120 days? Adipocytes (fat cells) on the other hand have a much longer lifespan, in the order of months.
