Chemiosmosis complex in sets?

Post by joneall » Sun Apr 01, 2018 3:44 pm

You always see nice diagrams of the four chemiosmosis complexes in, say, the inner membrane of a mitochondrion, all lined up in order (and in a straight line), each one eagerly awaiting the output from the previous one.

Does it really happen this way? Does the ubiquinone from a given complex 1 carry its very own little electron always to the same complex 2 and so on. Or can it go to any complex 2 within its range, whatever that may be?
