Does EBV contribute to breast cancer?

Post by whbio » Fri Aug 05, 2016 8:39 am

Although some studies have reported that EBV infection is linked to breast cancer, whether the virus promotes breast cancer is still in debate. A research in EBioMedicine shows that Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) infection may increase a woman's chances of breast cancer. This discovery could help prevent breast cancer.

Any virus that inserts its genome into a host can always cause cancer when it puts its DNA into the host there is always a chance that it could damage an important gene sequence that regulates cell division, growth, DNA repair, or apoptosis, which all could cause cancer to start which is uncontrolled cell growth due to a mutation in the cell's DNA.
