Is the renal medulla lighter in color?

Post by johntdlemon » Sun Nov 25, 2012 3:33 am

I read on my textbook and here that:
The outer part, called the cortex, is a dark reddish brown color. The inner part, called the medulla, is lighter-colored.

But then there are websites that says:
...the medulla is darker in color...the cortex can be identified by its paler color...

I think the cortex should be darker in color since the majority of the capillaries is in the cortex(or is it?), but I can't be sure... :?

Please help! Thanks! :)
