Homologous pairs are paird of whole chromosomes which can become joined at regions called chiasmata during meiosis. When they do join, the whole structure containing the two homologous chromosomes is called a bivalent. A germ cell is simply a beginner cell from which all daughter cells are made

In both plant and animal reproduction the embryo remains attatched to the parent by a tube like extension. In animals it is the umbilical chord, while in plants it is the funicle.
