Re: Step Twin

Now, actually this is possible. Some prerequisites involve: Identical twins or sisters with at least enough identical DNA to produce an egg each, of which contain identical DNA. A father, frick god, who can produce at least two identical sperm which at least one reaches each egg before all other spe...

Music effect on humans.

I don't know if this belongs here, but here goes: I don't know what music does to someone but I think I have a problem. I have always loved music, but only recently have I become a little crazy about it. I need to have my particular "dose" of music, or else I become agitated and frustrated...

Oops.. there goes the femoral artery

I had a friend of my parents who accidentally got her femoral artery cut during a surgery and survived. I know that this artery is important, as it is a very large artery and apparently she was very lucky that she didn't need an amputation, but I just wanted to know what were the chances of survivin...

Re: Where do we go from here?

I meant that evolution was species adapting better to fit the environment simply 'cos through Natural Selection, only the alleles which benefit the population get passed on. The problem is, that since the environment is no longer an important factor, we are prone to adapt to, for, or no change towar...

Re: Where do we go from here?

Okay, basically what Biohazard said (in a nutshell) is that food/technology does not mean evolutionary changes. Why? DNA is not changed, gene expression depending on diet is. Therefore, no evolution. Technology does not mean our DNA changed, no mutations. Therefore, no evolution. Ok, Biohazard. How ...

Re: Where do we go from here?

Now, I hate to be all uppity, but eugenics is, what I think, completely and morally incorrect. Now, I think it's bad enough we research animals in this way, and we breed animals like this, but it's like saying: "Oh, you have desirable traits and so do I so let's produce offspring" Hell no!...

Re: Where do we go from here?

It is now debatable that humans are actually evolving backwards. To explain this, you know how evolution depends on certain factors, such as, natural selection. Variations in human genetic information is through mutations. As humans are finding ways to "cheat", i.e. the "weak ones&quo...

Yeast is a eukaryotic cell with plasmids?

True? Or not true? I read some stuff about yeast integrating plasmids or part of plasmids into their DNA, but do they have plasmids themselves???

Cheers,

I'm not a doctor either, but it sounds like you have: *duh duh duh dummmm...* anxiety. Seriously, the way you have stated it = anxiety. The biting tongue problem? I have it all the time. Zap is tinnitus i.e. ringing in the ears. Heart defects are as such, heart defects. Nothing to do with amoxicilli...

Re: Chillies and... Anitbiotics?

Duly noted Kolean. Hmm... interesting. This shall indeed be my next topic of interest. Maybe a small experiment? Yeah, maybe it is just the spicyness killing all the bacteria, thus "curing" our colds. Also the increased sweating and expelling of fluids may help us cleanse our bodies of bac...

Ahh.. right. Most prokaryotes have a single loop of DNA, and we all know how hard it is to wind a rubber band (chromosome) around a ball (histone) and utterly pointless as yes, it only has 1 chromosome. Try unwinding it for protein synthesis... *shudders* I mean, good luck. Well, I'm quite sure Jack...

Chillies and... Anitbiotics?

I read somewhere that chillies are a source of antibiotics, yet now I find no proof. Initially, I thought that the chillies' spicyness was because of it's healing properties, but apparently the spicyness has nothing to do with the antibodies. So, what is the truth on chillies, and is it worth eating...
