Gene loci

the % of crossover frequency is equal to map units. So, if a crossover frequency is 2% then the loci are 2 map units apart. The farther apart two loci are on a chromosome the more likely they are to exhibit crossover. No crossover could mean that the genes are on different chromosomes. So, the one w...

Actually, non-disjunction can occur at meiosis I or meiosis II but it gives different types of gametes depending on which one it happens at. For example if a chromosome carries Aa then... If normal segregation occured then the gametes would be: Gamete 1:A Gamete 2:A Gamete 3:a Gamete 4:a If non-disj...

de novo and salvage pathways of nucleotides

In nucleotide biosynthesis are pyrimidines synthesized only by de novo pathways and purines synthesized only by salvage pathways or can they both be synthesized by either pathway?

I think the first part is the right answer but I keep confusing myself so I am not sure.

Thanks :)

Fatty acid and amino acid metabolism

Anybody have any study tips for fatty acid metabolism, amino acid degredation and synthesis? I feel overwhelmed with structures and pathways and enzymes that catalyze the reactions and I am looking for a way to sort it out and commit them to memory but they are all do simmilar. Any suggestions would...

A mutation is a phenotype that is represented in less than 1% of the population(as a whole not just the progeny of one specific cross) and a wild-type phenotype is a phenotype that is represented in greater than 1% of the population. For a particular trait there can be many mutant phenotypes as well...

trait controlled by 1 or 2 genes? dom or rec problem

I have been working on this problem for an hour and I finally think I have the correct answer but my solutions manual does not have this problem in it. If anyone could comfirm the answer or tell me what I did wrong I would greatly appreciate it. Oh and here's a pre-emptive sorry for the length but I...

Does anyone know about calcium phosphate and bone?

Is calcium phosphate just a component of hydroxyapatie crystals or does it have another function independent of hydroxyapatite crystals and collagen fibers contributing to the hardness of bone :?: :?

bone tissue and evolution question--please help!!

On my study guide for my first histology exam asks for the evidence for bone as a primitive tissue. I remember in lecture that this topic was briefly discussed but all I jotted down was that bone tissue has been highly conserved in the sense of evolution. I didn't think considering the huge amount o...
