The first one is easier to induce, which would in turn cause the cell to dehydrate anyway. It also depends on whether the cell is a plant cell or an animal cell. The cell walls are pretty tough and can resist a certain amount of pressure.

The cell at the start of meiosis is not a gamete, but a germ cell (meaning it will divide itself into gametes in the reproductive organs).
