do these terms refer to the same thing? i thought so from the reading i've done, but wikipedia contradicts this.

methylation of bacterial dna

i read that restriction enyzmes are always paired with methylases in a restriction-modification system so that bacteria do not digest their own dna... in this case, would the dna need to be demethylated before it is transcribed? how is this done?
