Home made Electrophoresis Gel tanks I've worked in a number of labs with home made DNA and protein gel tanks, usually made with perspex / glass and silver wire for the electrodes. The power supply is a bit tricker but i imagine its possible to get an AC to DC transformer with a high enough current o...

The process is called "Double haploid" (try google) and has been used successfully in a whole host of crop plants (wheat, rape, rice, rye, apple, onion etc etc). We are considering using it in our fast track non food crop breeding programs. To answer your question the haploid cell you start with wil...

Guessing NGS stands for "normal goat serum" and that you are using a secondary raised in a goat?

The blocking is to stop any other antibodies found in your secondary (and in a normal goat) from sticking to your sample and giving false positives.

Yes eating mouldy food can be dangerous, Peter the Great lost 20000 men to rye flour infected with Claviceps purpurea (also known as ergot) during his invasion of Turkey in 1722. Many fungi produce toxins see m On the other hand fungi and bacteria can produce many useful products including: Beer, br...

You now have your organisms DNA, a whole bank of Applied Biosystems 3730xl 96-capillary machines and shed loads of money. The only thing you need to sequence now is some known sequence to start you off. Sequencing requires a ploymerase to copy your DNA and DNA ploymerases need somewhere to start fro...

You can seperate large DNA molecules with pulse field electrophoresis in agarose (I've seperated whole chromosomes using the Biorad CHEF system), but again the problem is the very small size difference

Depends on the cells but in my exprience normal cells (in my case HUVEC / breast / endometrial primary cells) are far more sensitive to old media / high density than transformed cell lines. If you don't change HUVEC media every two days or don't split them before confluence you soon have lots of dea...

Is this because the gene isn't being expressed?

All cells with nucleii wiil contain the DNA of the gene but the RNA will be present only if that gene is being transcribed (expressed)

So there's no danger of biopharmed animals invading the market But there is a danger of biopharmed food CROPS being released. Thats the real problem It is already known that the US have failed to contain their GM crops and have contaminated non-GM farms and seed stocks. (see m ) Current GM crops, m...
