We observed a very rare sesamoid bone (cyamella) in the popliteus muscle of a 48 - year - old male cadaver. Further, the related literature is reviewed and the probable functions, morphology and clinical significance of the variation are discussed. </p> <p> <strong>KEY WORDS: </strong><em>Cadaver; Cyamella; Popliteus muscle; Sesamoid bone.</em> </p>
