Dictionary » Z » Zygospore ZygosporeDefinition noun, plural: zygospores (1) The spore produced and contained within a zygosporangium. (2) The spore formed by the union of many zoospores.
The spore produced by a zygosporangium is large and multinucleated. It is formed by the union of isogametes, such as in certain algae and fungi. The zygosore-forming fungi are called zygomycetes.

Fungal Reproduction... Basically, can karyogamy (n + n -> 2n) can be considered the opposite of meiosis (2n -> n + n)? 4. Lastly, for zygomycetes, would the term zygospore be synonymous with zygosporangium ? My Biology 11 textbook uses the former term, while my Campbell & Reece textbook uses the latter term.
