1. The act of whetting.

2. That which whets or sharpens; especially, an appetizer. Sips, drams, and whets.

(Science: chemical) Whet slate, a variety of slate used for sharpening cutting instruments; novaculite.

Synonym: whetstone slate, and oilstone.
