West african fever

West African fever --> malarial haemoglobinuria

A condition, now uncommon, resulting from plasmodium falciparum infection (malignant tertian malaria with severe haemolysis); frequently seen in Caucasians after interrupted treatment with quinine.

Synonym: blackwater fever, haemoglobinuric fever, west African fever.
