Volutin granule


noun, plural: volutin granules

Any of the cytoplasmic granules consisting of polyphosphates, and function as food reserve material within cells


Volutin granules are commonly found in bacteria. Nevertheless, a few species of algae, protozoa, and fungi were reported to contain the same granules.
