Re: Viral Enzymes

... the ones that are required for the conversion of their genome (e.g. reverse transcriptase for RNA viruses). These are then packed into the viral particle during the viral assembly. So, because they already carry the enzyme within the capsid, it is ready to use when the virus offloads its ...

Viral Enzymes

(I posted this in the Cell Biology forum but did not get a response, so I am re-posting this here ) For the viruses that must carry a specific enzyme (eg. viruses with ssDNA, -ssRNA genomes): 1. It is carried in the capsid AND coded for in their genomes, right? 2. since they need this enzyme before...

Viral Enzymes

For the viruses that must carry a specific enzyme (eg. viruses with ssDNA, -ssRNA genomes): 1. It is carried in the capsid AND coded for in their genomes, right? 2. since they need this enzyme before they can use their genome, how do they ensure that a lot is transcribed? Thanks in advance...

Gene Upregulation/Overexpression

... the name of your plasmid, you can usually check with the manufacturer, they will have a map that will tell you what your promoter is. if it's a viral promoter then you're all set. If it's not, you don't really know unless you search the literature for it. Generally speaking though, a promoter ...

Re: any existing techniques on human genetic modification

... entered clinical trial -- I would call that an existing, but unapproved, technique. Look into the chloride channel (CFTR) gene therapies using viral delivery for cystic fibrosis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cystic_fibrosis#Transplantation_and_gene_therapy
