disarracharide enzymes (i.e. maltase and sucrase) are produced only on the villi of the small intestine... you need them to produce single sugar units - glucose, fructose - that can be taken up by diffusion/active transport into the bloodstream... no villi occurs ...

Electron Micrograph of vesicles...

I think it's a mast cell. The numerous granules should have been a giveaway, but I didn't realize that mast cells could have so many microvilli. The thing in the center is the nucleus, I'm pretty sure, surrounded by lots of protein/histamine-rich granules. The surface villi reminded me a lot ...

Question about the function of villi in small intentine

Some nuturients are actively absorbed by small intestine such as glucose and amino acid. Others are passively absorbed. What's the difference between active and passive absorption? Can anyone espouse on those two please? Thank you

What are some modifications that increase the surface area in anamalia? Would plicae circularis, villi, and microvilli fit into this?
