Minimal media question

The plan is to see if germination can be stimulated by certain (non nutrient/physiological) chemicals. Therefore I need to allow for the growth of vegetative cells which have germinated yet i need to rule out the chance of the media alone causing germination.

I don't get this. You are using spores and you are trying to find a media that does not stimulate germination but supports vegetative cells? How does that work? If they are in spore form that is because they are in unsuitable conditions. So how can some be in vegetative form and some ...
