Vanillylmandelic acid

Final metabolite of adrenal and sympathetic catecholamines (e.g. epinephrine and norepinephrine)

Measuring the level of vanillylmandelic acid in urine can help diagnose pheochromocytoma and neuroblastoma. Excess VMA may indicate the presence of pheochromocytoma or neuroblastoma tumors since they secrete (and thus increase) VMA levels in urine.
