Uterine involution

The process by which the uterus returns to its normal pre-pregnant state (both anatomically and functionally) following childbirth or postpartum period.

Normally, after childbirth, the enlarged uterus from pregnancy returns to its normal pre-pregnant size and state. However, there are certain conditions in which the involution of the uterus becomes abnormal such as in the cases of subinvolution and superinvolution.
