trans-retinal --> all-trans-retinal

The orange retinaldehyde resulting from the action of light on the rhodopsin of the retina, which converts the 11-cis-retinal component of the rhodopsin to all-trans-retinal plus opsin.

Synonym: trans-retinal, visual yellow.

I really do not understand the difference between the cis-acting sequences and trans-acting sequence. I read many definitions but is still not clear for me. Any idea of simple and easy explanation that I could understand?:D
