Tracheotomy stoma



The hole or opening made after the tracheotomy procedure.


The stoma crated in the neck into the windpipe allows the individual t breathe through it. A tracheotomy stoma is held open by a tracheotomy tube. (When the voicebox is surgically removed, the stoma is then permanent, and now preferably called laryngectomy stoma.)

Word origin: tracheotomy + stoma.
