An abnormally low platelet counts in the blood, and may result in increased bleeding or decreased ability for clotting.


Supplement

Decreased platelet count is linked with folic acid deficiency, leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome, and dengue fever.


Word origin: thrombocyte + Greek penía (deficiency).
