Sensory perception or detection of temperature (e.g. of the environment or of the body) necessary for homeostatic regulation of body temperature.


Thermoreception is the role of the sensory receptors called thermoreceptors that can detect temperature changes. In animals such as some snakes, thermoreception is used to locate their prey.
