(Science: zoology) A small insectivore (Centetes ecaudatus), native of madagascar, but introduced also into the islands of Bourbon and mauritius; called also tanrec. The name is applied to other allied genera. See tendrac.

Origin: From the native name: cf. F. Tanrac, tanrec, tandrec.
