... studied about it, because both of my grand mothers had it. As far as I know, it is not related to just one gene. Some of the factors are MAPs like Tau proteins, APP (amyloid precursor protein), secretases, APOE 4 and high levels of cholosterol.

Proteins in Mitosos and the Cell Cycle :)

... Dephosphorylation of MAPs promotes formation. In fact some CDKs phosphorylate some of the MAPs to control the cell cycle. Some examples of MAPs is Tau, MAP2, +TIPs, and Stathmin.
