talampicillin

(Science: chemical) 6-((aminophenylacetyl)amino)-3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-4-thia-1- azabicyclo(3.2.0)heptane-2-carboxylic acid 1,3-dihydro- 3-oxo-1-isobenzofuranyl ester. A form of ampicillin that has no antibacterial action itself, but is broken down in the intestinal mucosa to yield a high level of ampicillin to the blood without affecting intestinal flora.

Pharmacological action: penicillins.
