(Science: anatomy) A transparent, viscid, lubricating fluid which contains mucin and secreted by synovial membranes; synovial fluid.

Origin: NL, perhaps fr. Gr. With _ L. Ovum egg: cf. F. Synovie. Viscid lubricating fluid secreted by the membrane lining joints and tendon sheaths etc..
