split hand --> cleft hand

A congenital deformity in which the division between the fingers, especially between the third and fourth, extends into the metacarpal region.

See: lobster-claw deformity.

Synonym: main fourchee, split hand.

... been explained yet, then evolution might still explain it. On the other hand, finding an alternative explanation for the appearance of organ systems ... can't organ systems become more complicated over time and eventually split into separate organ systems?
