Sonication

Definition

noun

(general) The act of applying sound waves to agitate particles in a sample or to disrupt particles in a solution.

(microbiology) The process of dispersing, disrupting or inactivating biological material (e.g. viruses) by sound waves.

(zoology) The process of buzz pollination where sound waves from a vibrating bee wing muscles shake pollen from flowers.


Supplement

Sonication is used to disrupt biological membranes of bacteria by exposing them to high frequency sound waves.

Lost Protein?

... I have confirmed the recombinant protein I'm working to collect is expressed in T7 ecoli/pET24a. And after addition of lysozyme and then sonication the supernatant also showed the expected protein. INFO: the protein's iso electric point is predicted to be 9.8... the solution for the column ...
