Somatic Cell

Any of the cells of a plant or animal except the reproductive cells; a cell that does not participate in the production of gametes; somatic cells are produced from preexisting cells;.somatic cell

Usually any cell of a multicellular organism that will not contribute to the production of gametes, i.e. most cells of which an organism is made: not a germ cell. Notice, however, the alternative use in somatic mesoderm. Any type of cell that is not involved in reproduction.
