1. A long piece cut ot rent off; a sharp, slender fragment; a splinter.

2. A strand, or slender roll, of cotton or other fibre in a loose, untwisted state, produced by a carding machine and ready for the roving or slubbing which preceeds spinning.

3. Bait made of pieces of small fish. Cf. Kibblings.

... rule. Suppose you have a box of balls of different colors. If you shake the box the chances are it will get more chaotic, but there is a thin sliver of chance that they actually arrange themselves by colors.
