... control changes could also be happening even in lower species. It just an idea. :idea: In answer to the reason you posted I think people use silica-gel for keeping food dry. There may be health problems with it, but I thought it was still in common use.

Dehydration time of a Bacterium

... bacteria survival time just completely wrong? Does anyone have any idea if it would be feasible to try to observe Myxococcus xanthus moving on a silica (glass) surface? That particular species does not swim, it only crawls. Thanks

Bones and silica Gel

I would guess only rest of biological material on them. It is good to put the bones into ants' nest and they will get it rid of the meat. Silica IMHO shouldn't damage the bones.
