Dictionary » S » Shones Syndrome Shones SyndromeDefinition noun A type of congenital disease wherein there is an obstruction of blood flow from the left ventricular side of the heart as caused by a set of cardiac defects involving the supravalve mitral membrane, parachute mitral valve, subaortic stenosis and coarctation of the aorta, probably as a result of failure of these structures to develop properly .
This heart disease is rare that it occurs approximately to eight per 1000 live births. The common symptoms in children include shortness of breath, fatigue, poor oral intake, heart murmur, recurrent lower respiratory tract infections (e.g. penurmonia).
