Shear rate



(fluid mechanics) The rate of change of velocity at which one layer of fluid flows over an adjacent parallel layer, often expressed in seconds-1.


Shear rate is the relative velocities in laminar flow of adjacent parallel layers of a fluid body at which shear is applied.
