Sex linkage

Definition

noun

A condition in which a characteristic that apparently manifests more frequently in one sex than in the other is associated with the gene(s) located in the sex chromosome.

Supplement

There are certain characteristics that are apparently expressed more frequently in one sex than the other (such as in males than in females). This only shows that the genes in the sex chromosomes have an influence in the expression of certain characteristics of an individual.

Re: Any ideas for vaccine development or anti-viral drugs???

... morpholino oligomers (PMO) are a class of uncharged single-stranded DNA analogs modified such that each subunit includes a phosphorodiamidate linkage and morpholine ring. PMO antisense agents have been reported to effectively interfere with the replication of several positive-strand RNA viruses ...

Re: Genes in the same linkage group are inherited together?

A centimorgan is the distance between two loci where the frequency of a crossover between the two loci per generation is 0.01. So the frequency of crossover between two genes 1.5 cM apart will be 0.015, and the frequency of a crossover between genes 140 cM apart will be 1.4. The alleles of the all g...

Genes in the same linkage group are inherited together?

Hi jonmoulton and wbla3335, Thanks for your post! So those 43 genes (alleles of them) in the same linkage group are inherited together. But how likely are they inherited together? I know this is hard to answer. But some genes are only 1.5cM away and others are as far as ...

... the same barring genetic events such as deletions, insertions, translocations, or inversions. You can get more information by searching for "linkage disequilibrium" and "genetic hitchhiking".
