Origin: OE. Seer, AS. Sear (assumed) fr. Searian to wither; akin to D. Zoor dry, LG. Soor, OHG. Soren to to wither, Gr. To parch, to dry, Skr. (used especially of vegetation) having lost all moisture; dried-up grass; the desert was edged with sere vegetation; shriveled leaves on the unwatered seedlings; withered vines.Plant succession, as in the instance of a [[hydrosere, a type of plant which colonises the banks of aquatic communities.
