(Science: chemical) A variety of carnelian, of a rich reddish yellow or brownish red colour. See the note under Chalcedony.

Origin: L. Sarda, Gr, or (sc), i.e, Sardian stone, fr. Sardian, Sardes, the capital of Lydia: cf. F. Sarde. Cf. Sardius.
