Rubidium

rubidium

(Science: chemistry, element) A rare metallic element. It occurs quite widely, but in small quantities, and always combined. It is isolated as a soft yellowish white metal, analogous to potassium in most of its properties.

Origin: NL, fr. L. Rubidus red, fr. Rubere to be red. So called from two dark red spectroscopic lines by means of which it was discovered in the lepidolite from Rozena, Moravia.

Abbreviation: Rb

Making Competent Cell

Hi, Anyone here have a good protocol in making chemical treated competent cells fast? Currently using rubidium chloride method.

Ionic bonds

... you're looking for the dielectric constant and it's effect on ionic bonds. However, I'd like to add, that bond is 100% ionic, even the bond in rubidium fluoride is partly covalent.

... water with a pH meter and the fact it's 18 ohm should be sufficient proof that the pH is 7? At least when it comes out of the machine. I've tried rubidium chloride and calcium chloride both unsuccessfully. ARGH!

Competent cells- just won't work!

... the problem here. Since one of your starins did work, it seems that the method is fine. I would suspect your cells. HAve you tried another method (Rubidium chloride is supposed to make chemically competent cells almost as good as electrocompetent one, and with much less work)
