Results from our forumChickens EggsI'm a chicken farmer, and crowing is only heard from roosters. However, the hens do make a lot of noise by clucking though. I found the easiest way to tell the difference in sex of chicks is just looking at the external genitals.

CHICKEN EGG... most) you buy are simply unfertilized eggs laid by hens. Being a chicken farmer, I collect eggs on a daily basis and they aren't fertilized (the roosters are separated from the hens at the moment). So yes, they can lay them without being fertilized.
