Reproduction asexual

Definition

noun

A form of reproduction that does not involve meiosis, ploidy reduction or fertilization, and the offspring is a clone of the parent organism.


Supplement

An organism capable of asexual reproduction is able to produce offspring in the absence of a mate. In asexual reproduction, the offspring is a clone of the parent and therefore results in low genetic variation in the species as a whole.

Hermaphrodite Reproduction

... we were stuck as to what term would be used for an individual who could (theoretically/hypothetically, of course) impregnate themselves. Would asexual be correct, in the same way that certain jellyfish are asexual? Or is there another classification for this situation? Thank you!
