recombination nodule

(Science: molecular biology) protein containing assemblies of about 90 nm diameter placed at intervals in the synaptonemal complexes that develop between homologous chromosomes at the zygotene stage of meiosis. Some nodules may be associated with the site of recombination.

... involves a complex of proteins called the "synaptonemal complex" and a "recombination nodule" but I am not sure if there is more known about it's exact mechanism
