Dictionary » R » Ras Rasras (Science: oncogene) One of a family of oncogenes, first identified as transforming genes of harvey and Kirsten murine sarcoma viruses. (name from rat sarcoma because Harvey virus, though a mouse virus, obtained its transforming gene during passage in a rat). Transforming protein coded is p21ras, a gTP-binding protein with GTPase activity, that resembles regulatory G-proteins. ![]()

Re: Which came first the DNA, RNA or protein... stage of the disease. They trigger apoptosis (programmed cell death), and senescence (biological aging) is triggered by another oncogene, the ras gene.
