(Science: botany) A name given to several species of the composite genus senecio.

senecio aureus is the golden ragwort of the united states: S. Elegans is the purple ragwort of south Africa.

Identifying Flower and Tree

The first one (straggly yellow flowers) looks like Ragwort. Genus Senecio, with various species.(sorry, can't do italics for the genus name - which always irritates me when I see Linnean names unitalisced in newspapers etc!)

... the new genus Triticale by crossing rye and wheat. A natural hybridization occurred in the last 50 years between common groundsel and the Oxford ragwort in England. New species of Cichlid fishes evolved in lakes in East Africa in the last 300,000 years.
