Dictionary » Q » Quadrat QuadratDefinition noun A square or rectangular plot of land used to mark off at random a physical area to isolate a sample and determine the percentage of vegetation and animals occurring within the marked area.
A quadrat is a tool used in ecology for sampling purposes. For instance, a quadrat is placed on ground at random to count the vegetation within the sample.
