pyrrhotite

(Science: chemical) A bronze-coloured mineral, of metallic luster. It is a sulphide of iron, and is remarkable for being attracted by the magnet.

Synonym: magnetic pyrites.

Origin: Gr. Flame-coloured, fr. Fire.
